A time for locals to visit friends, young people to look for boy/girlfriend and arrange weddings.

This is the largest and most important event for the Miao people in Guizhou that is hold in every November. During the festival, nearby Miao and Dong people will come to the gala, singing and dancing on the streets and move forward till the square of Leishan, gather there for the celebrations, dazzling minority dances and folk songs of Miao and Dong could be watched. As the main activities of the festival, more songs and dances, buffalo fights, ethnic sports will take on during the festival days. It is also a time for locals to visit friends, young people to look for boy/girlfriend and arrange weddings. No festival in Guizhou is as such colorful, interesting and worthwhile visiting than Miao New Year Festival. This itinerary is also available for sightseeing during non-festival dates or slightly adjusted for other festivals.

Detail Itinerary

Day 01 (4th Nov.): Arrival Guiyang

Arrival Guiyang and city tour.

Day 02 (5th Nov.): Huangguoshu Waterfalls

Day trip to visit Huangguoshu Waterfalls which is the biggest in Asia and visit an old Han Chinese Tianlong built 300 years ago.

Day 03 (6th Nov.): Guiyang – Zhenyuan

Seven hours drive to Zhengyuan with visits to local Miao villages along the way.

Day 04 (7th Nov.): Zhenyuan

Visit the ancient town of Zhenyuan by wandering in the old quarter to see the traditional houses built ages ago. Later visit Zhenyuan Museum. Hike up to the mountain on the back of the town where you can have a bird’s view of Zhenyuan and Wuyang River. Visit Dragon Cave, which built with temples in different styles on a cliff on the bank of Wuyang River.

Day 05 (8th Nov.): Zhenyuan

Take 20 minutes’ drive to Tiexi Stream and get a three-hour walk in a valley by following a stream to view the green hills and intriguing scenes. Visit Dragon Pool that the water comes out in a pool about 500 square meters.

Day 06 (9th Nov.): Zhenyuan – Kaili

Take a boat ride on Wuyang River to enjoy the dramatic landscape of the water and mountains. Later drive to Kaili.

Day 07 (10th Nov.): Kaili - Leishan

Visit Kaili Museum to learn about the ethnic people of the area. Drive to Leishan and attend the Opening Ceremony of the Miao New Year Festival in the afternoon.

Day 08 & 09 (11th & 12th Nov.): Miao New Year Days

Attend the festival and visit the local villages in the area.

Day 10 (13th Nov.): Xijiang - Guiyang

Visit Xijiang, the largest Miao village in Guizhou, and then drive to Guiyang.

Day 11 (14th Nov.): Guiyang Departure

Airport or train station transfer according to the schedule.
