When the Miao minority dress up for the annual "Sister Festival", the festival is dazzling by their tribal clothes and silver ornaments! The Miao Minority Festivals are among the one of most colorful, decorative and original you can experience in China. During ´The Sister Festival´ the area around Taijiang, a small lazy town in Guizhou province, will be buzzing with densely festive sense. The festival originates from a tale of a lonely beautiful mountain girl, with the help of her friends’ to look for a boyfriend for her. Festival activities include eating sisters’ rice, visiting friends, singing, dancing and boat racing. During this trip you will also visit Xijiang Miao village, the worlds' largest Miao Minority cluster. This itinerary is also available for sightseeing during non-festival dates or slightly adjusted for other festivals.

Detail Itinerary

Day 01 (12th Apr.): Arrival Taijang

Pick up from airport in the morning and drive to Taijiang (3hours).

Day 02 (13th Apr.): Sanjiang Sister Festival

All the villagers dress up in their best clothes, but the most amazing is all the young girls in all their silver wares (some of weigh 10 kilos!). The villages are filled with singing, dancing, drinking, fish catching competitions and rice making. The Miao villagers welcome all guest by offering colored rice and local drinks.

Day 03 (14th Apr.): Xijiang Miao cluster

Drive to Xijiang Miao cluster. This world's largest Miao residence has over 1000 Miao families. Xijiang Miao Village sits on a mountain slope, with wood houses climbing to the mountain top. All the buildings remain in ancient Ming and Qing dynasties style. The village is also known for its embroidery and silver ornaments.

Day 04 (15th Apr.): Xijiang - Rongjiang

Drive to Rongjiang. On the way visit Langde, Nanhua Miao villages. Pass by Leishan. If time allow, we visit the Water granary in Datang.

Day 05 (16th Apr.): Rongjiang - Zhaoxing

Drive 4 hours to Zhaoxing. On the way visit Biasha Miao Minority, local market and fair if possible. This Biasha Miao is quite different from other Miao groups in terms of clothing and daily life. Biasha people belong to the Miao branch that is least affected by modern civilization. Even in modern times, they still lead very traditional lives. The local people rarely venture out of the village except for selling firewood and shopping for daily necessities in markets. Both the men and women can be seen in traditional costumes, wearing their hair long.

Day 06 (17th Apr.): Dong minority village tour

Drive to Tang'an, A nice hike back to Zhaoxing. Visit Drum tower. Zhaoxing Dong village is one of the largest Dong villages in China, with some beautiful Drum Towers and traditional stages. The Dong village in Zhaoxing has a long history. Ancestors of Zhaoxing village settled here some 840 years ago.

Day 07 (18th Apr.): Chengyang Dong Village

Drive to Chengyang Dong village, visit the sheltered Wind and Rain bridge. Enjoy a traditional sing and dance performance. Hike to see the famous Chengyang eight stockaded villages. Here you find old waterwheel groups, the typical local-style dwelling houses of Dong stockaded villages and a magical drum-tower group.

Day 08 (19th Apr.): Longji Rice Terrace and Zhuang minority village

Drive about 3 hours to Longji Rice Terrace. A hike to visit Zhuang minority village. Longji Terraces were first built in the Yuan Dynasty about 700 years ago by the Zhuang people. The terraced fields have a very large scale, winding from the foot of the mountain to the mountain top with high and low layers. This ingenious construction makes best use of the scare arable land and water resources in the mountainous area.

Day 09 (20th Apr.): Yangshou

Drive 4 hours to Yangshuo. Free time in Yangshuo.

Day 10 (21st Apr.): Yangshuo – Guilin

Transfer to the airport according to the flight schedule.
