Mt. Kailash & Lake Manasarovar Tour

Duration: 14 Nights & 15 Days

Overview

Pilgrim for Mt. Kailash & Lake Manasarovar from Lhasa to Zhangmu

Ngari, means “A Fast Western Highland in Tibet”, is the remotest corners, the vast and less populated prefecture of Tibet. Mt. Kailash and Lake Manasarovar are exactly located in this remote and huge region. With the altitude of 6,714 meters above the sea level, Mt. Kailash is the highest peak of the massive Gangdise Ranges. It is also called Gang Renpoche in Tibetan language, meaning “snow mountain of the gods”, or the “treasures of snow mountains”. In Indian, it is called as “Kailash”. The mountain is said to be the gathering place of masses of gods, respectively from Lamaism, Bon Sect. Buddhism and Hinduism. This causes no surprise why many Tibetan, Indian or Nepali pilgrims come to here to worship and circumambulate (Kora) the mountain every year, they esteem the mountain as the “Heart of the World” and described it as the “earth’s navel”. In a year during May or June, it is the Saga Dawa Festival time that hundreds of pilgrims and tourists will swarm to the mountain. During this particularly festival, you may get deep insight of religious spiritual time and Tibetan customs. Around the mountain, it is the large area around more than hundred square kilometers. Here, in addition to Mt. Kailash, there is another high peak Mt. Namnani at the opposite of it, which has an altitude of 7,728 meters and also gains the name of “Mt. Goddess”. Two lakes of Lake Manasarovar (Mambum Yumtso in Tibetan) and the Demon Lake (Lanang Tso in Tibetan) are separately located on the parallel spread areas between the two mountains. A few rivers are passing around or even arise from here. Meaning the “source of rivers” in Tibetan, Gangdise Ranges originates for many large rivers. Shiquanhe River (Sengge Zangpo in Tibetan), back to Mt. Kailash, is the upper branch of the Indus; Xiangquanhe River (Langchen Zangpo in Tibetan), at the side of Gang Renpoche, is the source of the Sutlej and finally joint into the Ganges; Maquanhe River (Damchu Zangpo in Tibetan), is believed as the source of Yarlung Zangpo River. Till 2011, the southern route to Ngari from Lhasa is all paved in tar road, this great improvement is unthinkable before and makes the tour to there easier and accessible.
