Danba Ancient Watchtowers
Scattered among the dozens of pretty Tibetan villages on hillsides in Danba, the ancient stone towers were built by the Qiang people between 800 and 1,200 years ago and used as places for worship, storages for the valuable goods and the fortifications during the war.
The watchtowers ranges from 10m to 60m in height and are made of clay and solid stones by setting up into the varied shapes, the quadrangle, pentagon, eight-squares and even exceptional thirteen angles constructions could be found among nearby villages. Due to the numerous and unique castles here, Danba gains the name of ‘the Thousand Watchtowers Kingdom’.
