Lugu Lake
Sits at 2690m above sea level, the Lugu Lake overlaps the remote Yunnan-Sichuan border, with a depth of 93 meters the second-deepest in China.
It covers area of 52 square kilometers, one-third of territory in Yunnan while the rest two-thirds part in Sichuan. Lugu Lake area is dominated by the world’s last practising matriarchal cultures of aboriginal Mosuo, a subgroup of Naxi. The women ran the home and inherited family’s property through the youngest daughter. The men were traditionally child-rearers, gardeners, and musicians though at present this is less evident and both men and women are engaged in making a livelihood with farming and trading.
