Located in Chamdo town, Jampaling is the largest monastery in Kham. It was built in 1444 by one of the disciples of Tsongkhapa, the founder of Gelupa sect.
Jampaling Monastery always has maintained closed relationship with successive interior imperial counts. The major living Buddha of the monastery has been granted titles since the reign of emperor Kangxi in the Qing dynasty. It still keeps the brass seal granted to Phagpalha living Buddha during Emperor Kangxi’s Reign. The main buildings in the monastery are kept well. There are a hundred of images of Buddha and Lamas as well as thousands of square meters of murals and Thangkas. All these works of art reflect the skill of the craftsman and high standard culture in Chamdo.
