Mindroling Monastery


Located to the east of the Dranang River of the Dranang county in Lhoka, Mingdroling Monastery was built at the end of the 10th century and was renovated and changed its name to the Mindroling in 1677, which was one of the three largest monastery of the Nyingma sect.

It is well-known for its paying attention to spread knowledge in many ways such as practicing Buddha’s scriptures, astronomy, calligraphy and rhetoric as well as Tibetan Medicine ect. The recommending list of ‘Tibetan Perpetual Calendar over the years’ was formulated by Mindroling monastery as well as being the first Lamaist Academy in Tibet.
