Samye Monastery
Situated in the northern bank of the Yarlung Tsangpo River, within the boundary of the Dranang County, the Samye Monastery was first built in 779AD, and presided over for being constructed by Padmasambava and Trisong Detsen.
It is the first monastery allowing tonsured monks to become real Buddhists. The central chapel is three-stroreyed building with Tibetan style rooms on the ground floor, Han-style rooms on the middle floor and Indian-style rooms on the top floor. The whole architectural construction is grand in scale and unique in style. Many images and mural paintings are well kept in the monastery. The bronze bell, the lion carved of white-jade and the monument of thriving Buddhism in alliance are the priceless treasures.
