Bamboo Temple (Qiongzhu Si)
Located on Yu’an Mountain about 7 kilometers to the northwest of Kunming, Bamboo Temple (Qiongzhu Si) was initially established in Tang dynasty and was the first Zen Buddhist temple in Yunnan under the influence of central China, and today it is one of the most famous temple in Kunming.
During its long history of nearly 1,000 years, Bamboo Temple has been burnt to ashes and then reconstructed several times. The present structure mostly dates from the late Qing dynasty. The ancient temple fits into the topography of the mountain and consists of four levels and three courtyards of unique design, surrounded by verdant woods and green bamboos. The biggest attraction is the distinguished, finely crafted statues of the 500 Arhats (Luohan) sculpted by the brilliant artist, Li Guangxiu.
