Tiger Leaping Gorge


As one of the deepest canyon in the world, the gorge is around 18km in length and 30m for the narrowest width, drops the steep 3900m cliffs from water of the Yangtze River passes between 5,596m Jade Dragon Snow Mountain to the west and 5,396m Haba Snow Mountain to the east. Legend says that in order to escape from a hunter, a tiger jumped across the river at the narrowest point, hence the name.

It consists of upper, middle and lower sections, having 18 rapids. Hike through the Tiger Leaping Gorge is very popular and is the earliest hike route in Yunnan since 1980s. It normally takes about two days.
