One week highlights tour in Aba Tibetan & Qiang Prefecture of Sichuan

This one week tour, although the total driving distance is less than 1,500 kilometers, it will give you an addictive experience for the diversity of natural sceneries and Tibetan, Qiang plus some Hui Muslim cultures. Mere hours away from Chengdu city, it takes you already on the pristine valleys, forests covered mountains and vast grasslands in Aba Tibetan and Qiang Prefecture of northern Sichuan, where is also the second largest Tibetan habitation region in Sichuan and the main home for Qiang minority. Qiang people is one of the ancestors of the Chinese nation. They speak certain of archaic and unique language and the women wear the embroidered dresses with the exquisite patterns. The Tibetans here are mainly the branches of Burmapa and Gyarongpa. Long-term inhabited in multiracial areas, local Tibetans are more or less affected by and mixed with other minority cultures. They have resembling Qiang dresses of embroidered headscarf, belt and shoes, their houses are similarly with tall fortress of Qiang; Agriculture is the main mode of production for both Qiang and Tibetan, and their customs has blended a few features from Han Chinese. However, more Tibetan traditions could be found in this area, their dialect, religions and folks are still quite distinct from Tibet TAR, Khampa to the west part of Sichuan and further north to Amdo districts. This trip is kind of short, nevertheless, when you step on this stunning land, the nature wonders, distinctive cultures and folks must produce the breathtaking and dazzled visions and experiences.

Detail Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival Chengdu & City Sightseeing

Upon arrive at Chengdu and transfer to your hotel. Get refreshment in the hotel, we step out for the Wide and Narrow alleys (Kuan Zhai Xiangzi), two ancient streets preserved from the old architectures in Ming and Qing dynasties in Chengdu. In the evening time, enjoy the magical Sichuan Opera and Face Changing Show, the ancient Chinese dramatic art.

Day 02: Songpan Old Town or beyond (B)

Hit the road northward to Songpan along Minjiang River gorge, known as the ‘Flora Corridor’ due to the richly species of plants and flowers. At Songpan, explore this ancient historic town, and hike up to the part of intact old town walls.

Optional Horse Treks:
Horse trek into the nearby woods and mountains is one of the highlights and favorable activities in Songpan, which need extra from one to 12 days varied from routes. If you are interested in it, please contact our trip advisor for tailor-made details to suite you.

Day 03: Langmusi via Zoige Grasslands (B)

Pass through Zoige high grassland, one of China’s largest marshland prairies, also the habitat for the wild Black-necked cranes. Excurse at Huahu Lake (Flower Lake) located in the heart of grassland for flower and plenty of birds views. Arrive at Langmusi in the afternoon, explore the town.

Day 04: Giant Bend of Yellow River (B)

Visit two great Gelugpa sect. monasteries this morning at Langmusi. Then hit the road down southward through verdant grassland to Tangkor, where have a spectacular view of the Giant Nine Bends of Yellow River, and visit nearby Roc Monastery.

Day 05: Taoping Qiang Village (B)

Head to the Qiang ethnic inhabited region today. En the route, visit a Tibetan Buddhist Pagodas, a religious commemoration for the tenth Panchen Lhama. Spend a night in the village of Taoping, a well preserved ancient Qiang village.

Day 06: Drive back to Chengdu (B)

Morning visit the Qiang village, their embroidery and interesting architectures of the tall watchtowers and fortress, experience unique Qiang cultures. In the afternoon, drive back to Chengdu.

Day 07: Giant Panda Visit & Chengdu Departure (B)

Morning visit Chengdu Giant Panda Breeding Research Base and have a look of cute pandas. Established in 1987, the base has more than 80 Giant Pandas living here. After visiting, transfer to the airport or the train station according to the schedule.
