Overview
The Shoton Festival, commonly known as the Yogurt Festival or Banquet is an annual the largest and most mysterious festival held around middle of August in Lhasa, Tibet. It began in the 16th century with a banquet given by the lay people for the monks featuring yogurt, later on the custom being continued by local Tibetans that the yogurt dine becomes the main part of the festival. During the gala, the devout of Tibetan people will display a huge painting of the Buddha on a hill, traditional Tibetan opera will be performed at the Norbulingka summer palace, yak race show and market fairs will be held. There is also much feasting and visiting between family groups at this time of year. The festival is the great represent for the best of Tibetan religion, culture and traditions.

Detail Itinerary
Day 01 (23rd Aug.):: Arrival Lhasa
Upon arrived in Lhasa airport or train station, pick-up service and then transfer you to the hotel located in Barkhor square. Have a good rest in the hotel for altitude acclimation.
Day 02 (24th Aug.):: Lhasa Sightseeing
Full day visit the Potala Palace, the Jokhang temple, and walk around Barkhor Street.
Day 03 (25th Aug.):: Shoton Festival Day
Today is the first day of Shoton Festival. Get up early morning and go Drepung Monastery to get a good position to view Great Buddha Tangkha show. In the afternoon visit Sera Monastery, possibly over the heated scriptural debates of the monks.
Day 04 (26th Aug.): : Shoton Festival Day
Morning drive to visit Ganden Monastery that is 65km away from Lhasa city, where we can visit the monastery and take short moderate trek. In the afternoon, we drive to Norbulingka Park to watch the interesting Tibetan Opera Show.
Day 05 (27th Aug.):: Lhasa Departure
Transfer to the airport or train station according to the schedule.
