Overview
Dali is a great place for cycling, with quiet country roads and sweeping mountain vistas. Biking around Dali’s iconic highlight, Erhai Lake, is the pace and classic choice that you will meet authentic local people through villages at the lakeside. Set the starting point at Three pagodas, the landmark of Dali, the cycling route takes from the western shore to the eastern shore, bike around Erhai for two days, tracing your way along a route that is partially paved, partially dirt, and partially footpath. This is a favorable and moderate riding that fit for the couple and a family. Proper logistic support will be available on the way or depends on requests.
Itinerary
Spend two days to ride loop of the stunning Erhai Lake, the seventh-biggest freshwater lake in China. This delightful cycling crosses either rolling hills or flat terrain dominated by many fascinated ethnic villages for your exploring. We will start the bike to Three Pagodas which is great for photos, and continue to cycle along the western bank of the lake, through some Bai villages with schools, temples and farms. About 2.5 hours later, we arrive at the old town of Xizhou, attending the fabulous morning market, a great chance to see colors and traditions of local lifestyles; visit the exquisite Bai private house, some are constructed since Qing Dynasty. Next, cycling straight up to Zhoucheng, a village famed for Bai’s Tie-dyeing art. The trail then turns off the main road to the eastern shore of the lake, slices through the fields to Shuanglang, a lakeside fishing village attracted many artists to set homes here, where we also spend a calm night. The next morning, we continue biking to Wase and other small fishing villages, then return to Dali by catching a ferry after the Sky Mirror Pavilion.
