Influenced by the southwestern monsoon climate in Indian Ocean, the canyon has several climatic zones and plenty of variety in its flora and fauna. The great diversity of flowering plants and trees inspired botanists like George Forrest and Kingdon Ward to make repeated visits. Traditional ethnic cultures and the exotic mix of Han, Nu, Lisu, Tibetan and mysterious Drung nationalities are vibrant in the valley. Some very interesting festivals could be encountered in winter and spring, including Bathing Festival, Arbor Day and Harvest Festival ect. You will be surprised at a number of Catholic churches and local believers in such remote corner, the legacy of French missionaries who arrived here in the 19th century. The tour is a truly passionate exploration to delve into Yunnan, which gives a fascinating insight into its ever changing landscapes and province’s wild and lesser-known quarter.

Detail Itinerary
Day 01: Arrival Kunming & City Sightseeing (D)
Upon arrival in Kunming and transferred to hotel. After some rest visit Bamboo Temple, a Buddhist temple established during the Tang Dynasty, displayed exquisite 500 arhats sculptures. Then take a leisurely stroll along the Green Lake, a charming area of teahouses and small boutiques selling handicrafts and paintings. Later free wander the interesting flower market. Dinner will be served as the local flavor mushroom hot pot, one of Yunnan’s characters with infinite varieties.
Day 02: Flight to Baoshan & Liuku (B)
Take a morning flight from Kunming to Baoshan, and then drive to Liuku, the city alongside the Nujiang River. Overnight in Liuku.
Day 03: Liuku - Bingzhongluo (B)
Drive to Gongshan along the Nujiang River with magnificent landscapes. On the way, see how local people cross the raging river by daredevil suspension and cable bridges. Overnight in Gongshan.
Day 04: Bingzhongluo (B)
Full day sightseeing in Bingzhongluo, the outpost town bordering near Tibet. Visit Puhua Monastery, a Nyingmapa sect. lamasery built in Qing dynasty. Visit Chongding Catholic Church, established in 1935 by a French missionary. Climb up sacred Mt. Gongdang, where have a bird view of the giant bend of Nujiang River.
Day 05: Bingzhongluo Trek (B)
Trek 1 hour to village of Qiunatong along Tea-horse route, where is last village at the juncture of Yunnan and Tibet, dominated by lush forest, waterfalls. Trek north direction to the upper portion of Nujiang Canyon, the Naqialuo canyon, is the largest while the most spectacular part of gorge.
Day 06: Bingzhongluo - Kongmu (B)
Drive 2 hours to Gongshan and then take the dirt mountain road to Kongmu located at Dulongjiang, cross the highlights of nature reserve of Gaoligong Mountain, which takes about 7 hours for 96km. Scenes are fabulous on the way.
Day 07: Kongmu - Bapo (B)
Trek some ways in Dulong tribe inhabited areas, you will see several suspending bridges, several Dulong villages, and the grand view of the 120m-high Moon Waterfall. Stay in a local guesthouse or camping.
Day 08: Dulongjiang Trek (B)
Trek 15km with 36 tough road drive along Dulongjiang River to a tribe village. Overnight in a local guesthouse or camping.
Day 09: Dulong Tribe Visit (B)
Visit a tribe village of Dulong and face-tattooed senior ladies.
Day 10: Return to Bingzhongluo (B)
Drive back to Bingzhongluo along the previous way.
Day 11: Bingzhongluo - Liuku (B)
Drive to Liuku. On the route, visit a tribe village inhabited by Tibetan and Nu minorities, where is renowned for the pretty half-blood woman.
Day 12: Liuku – Baoshan - Kunming Departure (B)
Drive to Baoshan and take the flight to Kunming where you take the connected flight for departure.
